“We can be mended…We mend each other” – Four, Allegiant

I would be lying if I said I knew where to start but I will get right into it and TRY not to give anything away.

Allegiant is the third and final book in Veronica Roth’s dystopian trilogy. It follows the path of Tris, Four and their friends after the founding father’s video is revealed to everyone in their community. They now have to decide if they want to leave the home they have always known in order to discover new land or stay put and try to mend what has been broken.

So now that you have the gist of what the book is about I can start to talk about what I loved and well…LOVED about this book. The first thing is that we finally get to take several peaks into Tobias’/Four’s head, I thought that was refreshing and very fitting based on how the story progresses. We start to understand his struggles and just how deep his love for Tris runs. Of course, this isn’t just a story about two people who are in love, so there has to be ACTION! As we start to understand the factions from the perspective of the ‘founding fathers’ we start to realize that deception is EVERYWHERE! Things should not be taken at face value and are never what they seem in this book.

Veronica had me moving through my feels trying to dodge the tear-spots. I got to connect more with other characters like Cara, Peter and Caleb from Four and Tris’ perspective of course. By the time you get half-way through this book, you won’t know who to trust and who is on the right side, because just like in real life, everyone has a reason for their actions that makes sense to them. The way she rights and describes what is happening is just exquisite. She puts you in the scene and you feel and see everything.

There is a HUGE part of this book that I refuse to mention because I want you to read it. This had me staring at the pages and wondering if something was wrong with my copy (I still think there is). But after I got over my shock, I realized what Veronica did and I think it is BEAUTIFUL! I know now why persons told me I would dislike this book but in fact, I love it even more. It shows me the truth about life, the struggles we face in love and relationships, the guilt we try to fight, the person inside us we wish we could change. She shows me that everyone is struggling with something even if you can’t see it. Even the most ‘put together’ person has a corner in his/her mind that holds the troubles. I loved the fact that this book, in the simplest way I can describe it, is REAL!

Check out two of my top five moments in the book. I absolutely can’t show you #1 because you would FREAK!

This is from Tris’ perspective as she thinks about Tobias. Yes, you guessed right, he did something that she believed was unforgivable. Oh boy!

Just like that, order is restored! I must admit, I am a hopeless romantic and I love to see moments like this in the books I read. I love that Tris knows, love is no fairytale, it takes work and dedication!

So yes! I would recommend that you go to the book store NOW and get yourself a copy. Read this before you watch the movie, form your own view of it and interpretation. It took me a while to finish, because of unavoidable reasons unrelated to the quality of the book and writing, but when I was done I felt GREAT! I must admit a little sad because it is all over, but great because of how it all came together.

Keep your eyes locked on this blog because pretty soon I will be telling you about the prequel to Divergent which speaks about Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton two years before he met the unforgettable Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior.

It’s Kimberly signing off until next time!
